『影なき男』見終わった。W・S・ヴァン・ダイク監督の1934年作。発明家が消息不明になりその関係者が殺され…という事件に、引退した探偵とその妻が挑むというミステリー。ダシール・ハメット原作だがハードボイルド色はなく、スリラー要素も希薄。スクリューボールコメディ風の軽快なテンポの娯楽作。

軽妙なセリフの応酬と盛り沢山のユーモアは楽しいし、マスコットの犬も可愛いけれど、反面ミステリーとしての展開や描写は物足りないので、途中からだんだん「ウィットに富んだ会話や小ネタはもういいから…」という気分に。ユーモア・ミステリーというには事件そのものが重いし、ちょいチグハグ。
